In the wake of Hurricane Irma, once again we have been confronted with the question of our readiness to deal with severe weather. David Merrick is the Director of the Emergency Management and Homeland Security Program at Florida State University as well as a Senior Fellow in FSU’s Center for Disaster Risk Policy. David will talk with Brien about his research and his work with public agencies to help all of us be better prepared.

We live in one of the most unusual environments in the world where certain species flourish and where our waterways offer very unusual characteristics. The study of gulf marine life has been the focus of Dr. Felicia Coleman for many years. She will talk with Brien about her work as Director of the Florida State University Gulf Marine Laboratory.
